The Unplanned Workout: F45

“If you want to make God laugh, just tell Him your plans”. This was coined by Woody Allen but I can’t help but wonder if it was inspired by Proverbs 16:19.

Proverbs 16:9 Amplified Bible (AMP)

A man’s mind plans his way [as he journeys through life], But the LORD directs his steps and establishes them.

I bring this up because this week I had all intentions of going to CrossFit and even finishing up the last phase in a lifting program from MindPump. Those plans went out the window especially since my mom came to town three days earlier than expected. Try getting a workout in when you still have to work, your mom is sleeping in your workout space and there’s a bunch of teenagers walking around (she’s raising two kids). I wasn’t going to skip one of the most stress relieving, muscle building and feel good times of the day. On Tuesday, I snuck away and got a workout in at the gym I work at before work started.

Today, I joined the 4:30 am crew at F45 and took the 5:30 am class. Leg day is the best day!

No, there weren't ropes or wall balls but there were front squats!  I’m not sure what was worse. Was it the squat pulses done for 20 seconds before going into full range of motion squats or the fact that my shoulders were exhausted from holding the 60 pounds on the barbell? During the three sets, I had to remind myself that my legs should be doing all the work, not my shoulders! Taking two F45 classes wasn't in the plans but it was what I needed. I’m unaware of what drove my quads to ache on Tuesday but today’s class of 20 seconds of burn out before 40 seconds of full motion was exactly what I needed. Goblet squat pulses, stationary kettlebell lunge holds, suitcase holds, plank hold, front squat pulses, bridge hold, standing bike and box controlled glute step-downs left me on the floor taking extra time to stretch my muscles.

Many are the plans in a person’s heart, but it is the Lord’s purpose that prevails.Proverbs 19:21

As the year comes to an end, I’m already thinking about what 2024 will bring or how I want it to go. My desire is for my business, blog and community to grow while I continue to increase in knowledge and strength. I have books I want to read, number of clients I want to help, dates I want to go on… The list goes on. What I want to continue to be comfortable with is having plans but moving out of the way for God’s plans because His are better. I might not know what 2024 will hold and yes I will still create the vision board yet I rest in the awareness that God will direct my steps and lead me to His purpose and plan for my life.
