There's this story in John 4 where Jesus (a Jew) has a conversion with a Samaritan woman at a well. This conversation is unusual because back then men didn't talk to women and Jews didn't talk to Samaritans. During this interaction, the woman tells Jesus,
"Our fathers worshiped on this mountain, and you Jews say that in Jerusalem is the place where one ought to worship." When I read this, it sounds like she's challenging some beliefs of the day and Jesus doesn't back down. He tells her the secret to worship (expressing adoration and reverence, giving honor).
John 4:23 But the hour is coming and now is, when the true worshipers will worship the Father in spirit and truth; for the Father is seeking such to worship Him.
The secret isn't in the place where worship happens but how a person worships.
This truth brings comfort to me since I've had to spend several weeks at home working out instead of going to the gym. I had to modify workouts, my personal record (PR) for dead lifts, bench press and other exercises were based on what weights I have, my gym space is cramped and I had to rely on my cell phone timer instead of coach yelling when burpees should be done. I was starting to feel like my efforts weren't as great because I wasn't in the gym.
The secret isn't in the place where workouts happen but how a person works out.
I don't need to be at a gym or have a ton of equipment to participate in being healthy. Once on vacation, I did basic body exercises to keep the body moving and walked to locations whenever possible. Whatever I do and where ever I am, requires me to give my all. Tony Horton from Beachbody said it best, "Do your best and forget the rest." That's what's required to be a true Fitness Enthusiast.
