Strength, Endurance and Power. These words are plastered on Legion of Power CrossFit’s walls alongside a couple of other descriptions of what one will find in their CrossFit journey. Those are also promised if one uses the prowler aka the sled. It looks innocent enough with it’s tripod shape and bars for pushing but when weight is added, that’s a whole other beast.
When setting up for this workout, I was told to put whatever weight I wanted on the prowlers so I put 15 pounds on either side. That didn’t fly. So two 25 pound plates were added as I put the 15’s away. Somehow during the workout, another two 25 pound plates were added and all the fat that is located in my thighs were wishing death upon the person who put the weights on. At one point the prowler got stuck on the asphalt due to cracks and small rocks. I felt like I was pushing against a wall. If you noticed, we had the prowler twice during the workout but it was enough for my quads, glutes and hamstrings to feel the effects of the struggle hours after.
In our faith, we aren’t the only ones doing the work of becoming more “spiritual” and neither is God. Today at church I was reminded that like an athlete who trains to win a prize, we should train spiritually to become more like Jesus. What does that look like? Patience, love, joy, kindness, faithfulness, self-control and peace. The strength we find, the power we find, the endurance we find is from our relationship with God. God is like the coach that starts to challenge us with more weight than we think we can handle. God will bring situations into our lives so we can strengthen in areas we are weak in. Those things are like the prowler which builds muscle in our legs but helps produce power and endurance for runs. It sucks but it works.
1 Chronicles 16:11 - Seek the Lord and His strength; seek His presence continually!
Ephesians 6:10 - Finally, be strong in the Lord and in the strength of his might.
Romans 5:3–4: "Not only that, but we rejoice in our sufferings, knowing that suffering produces endurance, and endurance produces character, and character produces hope"
Isaiah 40:29 says, "He gives power to the faint, and to him who has no might he increases strength".
So whether you’re training for a special event like the HotShots Fundraiser or training to be more peaceful or both, know you aren’t alone in this. God’s got your spiritual back and the coach/coaches got your physical back. Get ready for greatness!
