Set Your Intention

I'm a big advocate of talking to yourself. You'll find me shouting out, "Just one more!" or "Come on Melinda. You've got this." This was the case on Monday when we were doing a ten to one rep scheme of push press, hand release push ups and hang power cleans (that was the modified version). My bicep was already cramping from all the thrusters we did prior to the workout and the crazy workout everyone created the day before. I was using 25 pound dumbbells for the push presses and could not use momentum as I was sitting on the floor, legs straight and tight core. It sucked! But what I did throughout the workout was set my intention.

Workout dialog to self: "You've got this. You've done this before and you can do it again. Don't you dare quit. You're stronger than you know. You can do all things through Christ who strengthens you. One more rep!"

I have a 5 minute journal that I write in daily. It goes through things I'm grateful for, daily affirmations, highlights of the day and a part that says, "What would make today great?" I usually get stuck on this one because I have to intentionally set an intention.

This reminds me of David in the Bible. He went through so much in his life. At one point his own son was after him to kill him let alone the previous king and his army. He was always on the run. In Psalms 3, he opens the chapter talking about how people are out to get him and they mock him saying God won't help him but what I love about David is that he always sets his intention. In verse 3 he says, But, Lord, you are my shield, my wonderful God who gives me courage." He was like me at the gym saying, "I'm strong because God makes me strong. Let's gooooo!"

I don't know what you may be facing in your life. It could the death of a family member or a really hard time at work. It could be the start of your health journey or finally setting a routine for the kids. Whatever it is, I challenge you to set your intention. Remember, God's got your back!
