Today I got to work on my power cleans and jerks and I had to drop down to 65 pounds. My highest that I’ve done is 85 pounds but that was only one rep max. I could easily focus on all the things that I’m doing wrong.
Here are five off the bat:
not putting the bar close to my legs
not keeping my arm straight
not jumping high enough
not lifting my elbows quick enough
not jerking the bar up properly
Instead of doing that, I calmed my brain and just focused on the one thing that I can do better, keeping my arm straight. Once I started doing that, I saw a change in how the bar even felt. I got to feel the weightlessness several times. I got to experience better rep numbers in one minute and 15 seconds. I got to practice becoming better at one thing.
Sometimes with our Christian walk, we tend to try to be good at everything, instead of focusing on the one thing that we can do, which sometimes it’s just praying.
1 Thessalonians 5:17 Pray without ceasing,
I don’t know how many times I did not know what to do or felt scared or alone, and when I prayed, there’s an exchange that happened.
That exchange is fear for faith.
“I sought the Lord, and he answered me and delivered me from all my fears.” – Psalm 34:4 ESV
God exchanges worry for peace.
Matthew 11:28-30
“Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you and learn from me, for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. For my yoke is easy and my burden is light.”
God exchanges our mourning into dancing and our sorrow into joy.
Psalm 30:11 You have turned my mourning into dancing; you took off my sackcloth and clothed me with a garment of joy,
Maybe instead of worrying about trying to be perfect whether in the gym or as a parent or as a Christian, let’s just focus on one thing. For me, I’m going to keep praying and keeping my arms straight:)
