It's All In the Wrist

Jesus hung out with some interesting people. Matthew was a tax collector by trade and would cheat people out of their money. Luckily, he was a changed man after he met Jesus and gave people back their money. Peter was a cursing fisherman who would fight in a moment's notice. His transformation occurred after Jesus ascended to Heaven. And Thomas doubted that Jesus came back from the dead. He required hard evidence that Jesus was alive and he received that evidence when Jesus appeared out of nowhere in a room.

John 20:27 Then He said to Thomas, “Reach your finger here, and look at My hands; and reach your hand here, and put it into My side. Do not be unbelieving, but believing.”

Interesting enough, the Greek word for hand also includes the wrist or anything below the forearm. It has been said that the nails that were driven into Jesus weren't in his hands but in his wrist.

What does this have to do with CrossFit? Everything! If you remember from last week, I told you I was going to work on doing a handstand push up. First I have to crawl (aka the handstand push-up) before I walk on my hands like my friend Will 🙂 And true to my word, I have been toiling for the past three days to build muscle in the back but most importantly, practicing being capsized for a minute at a time. I somehow didn’t comprehend the strain my wrists and forearms would endure until today when I was toting 30 pound dumbbells for several exercises. Things got real in the pike push-up. If you noticed, there’s about 66% of my body weight resting on my wrist. I feel like Jesus. That picture is proof that this is happening. If you could experience the awkwardness of the hand position that causes extra bending and unbending of the wrist, you would definitely know this is no easy task to accomplish.

As the weeks progress, hopefully you won’t be a doubting Thomas but a believer that hard work pays off!
