Finding the Perfect Box

My quest in CrossFit didn't start right away. It took more than a year before I started looking for a gym. This could have be due to COVID, or because I was already doing an online gym. I started my fitness journey with BeachBody online, and later became dedicated enough that I became a BeachBody coach. But after a while, the workouts just weren't...enough. I craved exercise daily and while the half hour workouts burned calories, they didn't satisfy.

This was a time in my life where I felt stuck. I hit 41 years old and my body wasn't responding to the workouts like before. Granted, I thought I ate pretty healthy and worked out sufficiently which is a normal assumption though not totally true. Try having a chips and salsa addiction! This began the search and I guess subconsciously I remembered the video I saw a year before and thought, "Man, I want to look like that and be that STRONG." Some CrossFit gyms came up and one really caught my eye since it was named after the place I wanted to live in so bad.

This website is now revamped but when I logged on to Legion of Power, I wasn't sure what I was looking for. There was a list of instructors and there on the page was my daughter's teacher from second grade! That did it for me. She was already in shape when we worked together in the same school but she improved and she was older than me! If she can do it, I can! I dropped in for the free class and smiled through the whole workout, having the time of my life. I was hooked! LPC become my gym but more importantly it became my perfect Box, which is CrossFit lingo for gym.

Finding the perfect Box isn't as hard as you think. Usually the gyms give you an opportunity to try some classes for free. Once in the classes, look for variety of workouts, coach motivation and camaraderie. LPC has it all! The coaches worked on form, the music was pumping and the workouts used various equipment but what really did it for me was when people I didn't even know was encouraging me to finish a workout. There's always someone giving me a fist bump when I'm done. This place and these people became my family. I finally found home! Welcome to the Box!
