Back on Track

This week I honestly didn't know what I was going to post but being consistent means I had to get on here and post anyway. The funny thing is, I found a devotional I wrote in 2019 that really fits in with what I've experienced for the past couple of weeks even right down to the cake! I pray that this will encourage you as it did me.

11/4/19

Today I woke up and I didn’t want to weigh myself. For the past several weeks, I’ve been eating a little extra and when I say a little extra, I mean Black Forest Cake, a plate of nachos, a giant size burrito from Filabertos’ and the two adult beverages. During that time, I’ve slowly watched the scale go up and kept saying, “That’s not bad. It could of been worse.” How many of us have been in that same situation yet instead of gaining two pounds it turns into five, fifteen or even more than what you lost.

This can happen in our spiritual life as well. We’re too busy to read the Bible. Life is rolling so we forget to talk to God. Some major things come as we miss church. By the time we know it, everything is spiraling out of control and we’re losing our...minds (some of you can fill in that blank:). How did we get so far? One bite at a time/one day at a time.

How do we get back on track both spiritually and physically?

  1. Admit you have created a problem.

1 John 1:9 If we confess our sins, He is faithful and just and will forgive us our sins and purify us from all unrighteousness.

Be truthful with yourself, God and possibly anyone who’s affected like your spouse. Have that heart to heart talk with yourself. Catholics are known for their confession boxes. In the website goodconfessions.com some of the benefits to confession is peace, strengthening our will and helps us overcome vices.

2. Remember your why.

Confession is not enough. When you remember why you started this journey to begin with and who’s affected by it, it helps you get back to that head space, that determination you once had.

Is. 46:8-9 Remember this, and show yourselves men; recall to mind, O you transgressors. Remember the former things of old, for I am God, and there is no other;

What did God save you from? What was your life like before? God was reminding the children of Israel of who He is and what He’s done for them and He’s reminding us the same thing. We didn’t come this far to back down.

3. Get back to it!

Prov. 24:11 NLT The godly may trip seven times, but they will get up again. But one disaster is enough to overthrow the wicked.

The only difference between failure and success is you keep moving forward. There are many examples of people who wouldn’t give up even after failure. Colonel Harland Sanders, the KFC guy, failed at many things and didn’t really become a fast food guru until he was in his 60’s.

Today is a new day. Get out there and read your Bible, go for a walk, eat those proteins, go to church and do it again the next day and the day after that.
